Search for town sign

Heathfield and Waldron Rotary Club are stepping up their campaign to recover Heathfield s cherished town sign.

Members are organising a search party this Sunday to scour the immediate area of the youth centre in an effort to find the sign which vanished from its post some weeks ago.

The Rotary club provided the town with the distinctive sign depicting the Cuckoo Lady releasing the first cuckoo of spring 50 years ago.

Members believe it may have been dumped over a hedge or down the bank towards the cuckoo trail.

A club spokesman commented: 'It would need transportation to move it very far because of its weight. As it is likely that it was removed more as a prank than anything else, there is a good chance that it is near by.

'Could local residents in this vicinity please check their grounds, particularly out of sight areas behind sheds or hedges just in case.

If you have any information contact the police who will forward it to the Rotary Club. There is a reward of 50 for whoever finds the sign.
