Sax player for stars like Tony Bennettdies at the age of 60

An international jazz saxophonist who made his home in Haywards Heath and played with stars like Tony Bennett and Oasis has died after a short battle with liver cancer.

Andy Mackintosh, 60, also worked with top names such as Ray Charles, Diana Ross and Quincy Jones, as well as having been a member of the James Last Orchestra. The son of top big band leader Ken Mackintosh, he played on the late Amy Winehouse’s hit Rehab .

While living and working in the USA he met Bonnie, his wife for 36 years. They had a son, Kenny, and moved to South Norwood before later making a home in Mid Sussex. He also performed with acts such as Wet Wet Wet , The Spice Girls and Elton John.

Andy was highly regarded as an accomplished jazz performer, and he also played the drums , featuring on the Harry Potter and Nanny McPhee films.

He moved to Haywards Heath in 2007, and had recently retired to Brighton, where he enjoyed the local jazz scene.

He leaves ex-wife Bonnie, sister Jill, and son Kenneth.

Final arrangements had yet to be made for his funeral at the time of going to press.
