Rye celebrates Christmas in style

THERE was a fantastic festive atmosphere in Rye on Saturday with the Christmas Festival in full swing.

Real reindeer pulled father Christmas’s sleigh through the streets of the town in a colourful procession that set off from the station.

Pipers and musicians from Rye College’s blocco carnival band added to the atmosphere while local youngsters in eye-catching costumes paraded lanterns and giant Christmas crackers they had made.

The event was blessed with fine weather which led to a good turn out of appreciative spectators cheering on the procession.

Making a surprise appearance was Captain Jack Sparrow who delighted youngsters by posing for pictures with them.

The fun continued with a Christmas Fair at Stramd Quay and Father Christmas handed out gifts to young admirers at Rye Castle Museeum.

Rother Council added to the cheer by providing free parking for the event.
