Rye and Battle residents asked for their say on bus services

BUS passengers in Rother are being given more time to tell East Sussex County Council their views on whether current services meet the needs of local communities.

ESCC is reviewing supported local bus services (services which are funded by ESCC) in the Hastings and Rother areas, including some services in Wealden and Lewes.

The review covers both public and school and college bus services and was due to end on November 12, but the deadline for comments has been extended until December 3.

Current contracts for the operation of supported local bus services are due to expire at the end of July 2011.

Tenders will be issued in early 2011 for the continuation of appropriate levels of service.

Changes to services will be considered in the light of:

* existing use

* comments from users and other interested parties

* the budget available

* the need to ensure best value.

The outcome of the Government Spending Review in October 2010 will also be taken into account.

Any individual, organisation or group who has an interest in this review can take part.

The feedback will be used as part of the review and will be used to develop more detailed proposals for these services.

Further consultation on these proposals will be carried out in 2011.
