Rail firms in south-east given poor rating in Which? survey

Two of the rail companies serving the south-east have appeared in the bottom of a survey looking at the best and worst train companies.

The Which? report took into account six categories (availability of seating, cleanliness of toilets, condition of the train, punctuality, reliability, value for money) in compiling its statistics.

Out of 21 rail companies, Southern was 19th and Southeastern 20th. They only beat Thameslink & Great Northern/First Capital Connect by a couple of percent.

Both Southern and Southeastern gained just two out of five stars for punctuality, cleanliness of the toilets and value for money.

Grand Central runs just four trains a day each way between London and Bradford, and five between London and Sunderland but managed to top the poll.

Which? says that the survey was conducted in November 2014. They received 7,309 responses from commuter and leisure travellers about the journeys they had taken in the previous 12 months.

“Each train company is rated in categories we know mean a lot to our customers, and given an overall customer score.”
