Professional artists revisits Felpham open house art trail

Professional artist Jean Haines returned to the Felpham event which kickstarted her career.

Jean was among the 24 exhibitors who took part in the latest Felpham open house art trail during the bank holiday weekend. She had 20 watercolours on show in the Sea Road house of her brother-in-law.

Her informal tutorials became one of the hits of the occasion as hundreds of people turned out to look around the trail's various premises.

Jean said: "I came to the trail four years ago after I'd had a very long break from painting because of a move from Dubai to the UK.

"Since that time, I have never looked back. Everyone who comes along is so friendly and it's lovely to tell them what I have been doing."

That includes being accepted as a member of two national artists' organisations as well as having three exhibitions coming up and her first book, about how to paint watercolours, due out next year.

"I look forward to coming down here every year. I had such a lot of interest when I came here four years ago," said Jean, who lives near Odiham in Hampshire.

This year's 11th trail featured 11 destinations around Sea Road.

The show included paintings and photography by Rob and Claudia Jones, of Vicarage Lane, Mary Mahler's restored rocking horses in Canning Road and jewellery by Holly Newman in Links Avenue.

Trail founder, artist and exhibitor Jacky Bellamy said: "There's been a very good response to the trail again. There's several new exhibitors, which keeps the trail vibrant and lively."
