Working with architects Bailey Partnership, the council has submitted an application to its own planning team asking permission to build on the land, in Bewbush.

The new homes would all be affordable and would make up phase 2 of the development of the playing fields – the first included Waterfall Crescent and Douster Crescent.

The 2.7 hectare site will be split, with 1.9 hectares taken up by housing and the remaining land kept as a playing field.

The Breezehurst Community Pavilion will stay where it is.

The site was allocated for housing in the Crawley Borough Local Plan 2015.

The scheme will be made up of 18 one-bed flats, 30 two-bedroom flats, eight two-bedroom maisonettes, nine two-bedroom houses, 17 three-bedroom houses and three four-bedroom houses.

Proposals include a pathway link to the existing footbridge over the Horsham Road to Buchan Country Park.

The application notes that the site is close to shops, school and leisure facilities.

Two public consultation events were held in October to allow residents to view the proposals and voice any concerns before a planning application was submitted.
