On Sunday June 1 communities up and down the country celebrated the Big Lunch, a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually on the first Sunday in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun. Pett was no exception. Starting two years ago with the Jubilee Lunch and followed up last year with the Coronation Lunch, Pett WI this year were again the main organisers of the Big Village Lunch. Nearly one hundred people came to Pett Village Hall and enjoyed a get together with their friends and family, as well as a veritable feast of puddings and some great live music provided by Martin Blackman and his band.

Don’t forget the Flower Festival at Pett Church on Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8. As well as beautiful and spectacular flower arrangements, there will also be home made cakes and tea and various stalls.

Sunday June 8 – Holy Communion, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 9:30am led by Richard Barron. Everyone is welcome and can then stay on for the Flower Festival. There will be a Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

On Monday June 9 the Village Choir will meet again at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel.

Please note that the main hall in Pett Village Hall will be closed for two weeks from Monday June 9 to Sunday June 22 whilst the hall floor is replaced. This means that there will be no POPP meetings on June 10 and 17.

June Gardening Club meeting on June 11 will take the form of a visit to King John’s Nursery, Sheep Street Lane, Etchingham at 2pm. Entry is £4 with refreshments available. If anyone has transport problems, could they contact a member of the Committee, details in Pett Parish News.

Also on Wednesday June 11 the Mobile Library will be in Pett and Pett Level. It will start at the Church at 10.10am, moving on to Chick Hill at 10:50am and finishing at The Smuggler at 11.20am.

East Sussex County Council, having undertaken a comprehensive review of the Mobile Library Service, is now consulting on proposed changes to the way that this service is delivered. These changes will provide a more cost-effective service and make a contribution to planned savings for the Library Service.

The proposals in relation to Pett are as follows:

* The stop at Chick Hill (top) to be combined with The Smuggler stop, which is 0.4 miles away and has higher visitor figures.

* The Guestling Allards stop to be combined with Pett Church stop, which 0.3 miles away and also has more visitors.

Chris and Robin Hutt are again opening their garden at Fairlight End on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 June from 11am till 5pm. Charities benefitting from this include Macmillan Nurses, Marie Curie Cancer Care and our own Pett Village Hall.

Anyone who can support this event with a cake, please bring it to Fairlight End before 10am on either day. Any containers need to be marked with your name for collection after the event. Last year hardened visitors said that the cakes at Fairlight End were the best for miles around!
