Pet cat blinded in one eye by air rifle pellet

Lyn Stevens shows the pellet which partially blinded one of her daughter's cats in Felpham.

The airgun pellet entered two-and-a-half year old Rascal's head just behind her left eye.

The force of its impact made the eye swell and fill up with blood. This pushed the eyeball out of its socket.

"It was horrible to see," said Katy. The late-night emergency has led to Rascal losing her sight in that eye.

She finished her vets' treatment last week after a complicated operation just beforehand to remove the damaged eye. Katy stated: "The pellet seems large compared to the size of her head."

The horrendous injury suffered by the white long-haired domestic feline added to the anguish which chef Katy (28) saw her pets suffer this summer. Less than three weeks earlier, Rascal's sister tortoiseshell Bubba was targeted by a sniper. The pellet left a hole in one of the cat's sides. It cannot be removed because it is lodged too close to her spine.

Katy, of Whitelands, said: "I'd like to give the same treatment to whoever has done this to my cats and see how they like it. The difference is that an animal can't say if they are in pain or not."
