Worthing road sings Happy Birthday to a very special 90-year-old

Anne Wilson is 90 years old today and her family’s numerous plans to celebrate had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus.

She always thinks of others before herself, so her granddaughter wanted to find a way to make her feel special and came up with a brilliant, social distancing solution.

Janice Turton said: “I wanted to make her day as special as she is, so decided to send a letter to everyone in Windsor Road, the church end, asking them if they could come outside at 11am to sing Happy Birthday.

“The turnout was remarkable and a real show of community spirit, which I can only thank everyone for.”

Up until recently, Anne has being running art groups in Worthing and selling her artwork.

Janice said: “She has always helped with community activities, running a Brownie group in Coulsdon, Surrey, before she moved to Worthing.

“Since then, she helped support at Steyne Gardens Brownies group and also at the toddler group. She is always thinking of others before herself, which is the Girlguiding motto.

“Her garden is beautiful and admired by many. She sometimes opens her garden for people to come and paint.

“All her grandchildren and great-grandchildren call her by the name Goggog and love her dearly.”
