Travellers move in at Eastbourne park

A group of travellers have moved in at an Eastbourne park.

Council officers and police are visiting the camp at Princes Park this morning (June 15).

It is understood between 30-50 caravans arrived on Sunday (June 14).

A spokesperson from Eastbourne Borough Council said, “Officers from the Neighbourhood First Team are visiting Princes Park this morning with Sussex Police and the East Sussex County Council Traveller Liaison Team.

“We will provide further updates as soon as possible.”

The spokesperson denied claims a gate had been left open.

Meanwhile Eastbourne Police wrote on Twitter, “We are aware of caravans and vehicles arriving at Princes Park in #Eastbourne. It has been reported as an unlawful encampment.

“We are working with relevant councils to complete an assessment. We have spent time on the site last night and this morning liaising with those present.”
