Lib Dems in Horsham are accusing MPs of a ‘concrete cover-up’ after they voted not to publish a register of RAAC at-risk schools and hospitals.

Local Liberal Democrats say that a Lib Dem amendment to the Levelling Up Bill would have forced the Government to publish a register of schools and hospitals that are in a state of serious disrepair from RAAC concrete, asbestos or any other construction problem.

But Conservative MPs, including Horsham MP Jeremy Quin and South Downs MP Andrew Griffith, voted against it.

The Government found itself in a RAAC crisis in August which forced schools to close just days before returning from their summer break –including Greenway Junior School in Horsham.

More than 300 Conservative MPs voted last week against publishing a regular list which would keep people informed of progress.

Horsham Lib Dem spokesman John Milne said: “As Horsham residents we have a right to know when our schools and hospitals are liable to collapse or filled with toxic asbestos.”
