Battle residents create tribute to Captain Tom Moore for his 100th birthday

The former British Army officer has raised millions of pounds for the NHS.

To mark his 100th birthday, Battle resident Jackie and her daughters have created Captain Tom Moore as a scarecrow to coincide with the Battle Scarecrow Festival 2020.

It has been erected on the corner of North Trade Road and has been widely shared on social media.

Rother Police shared a picture of the creation, adding: "A Battle resident has created a lovely tribute to Captain Tom Moore to honour his 100th birthday today.

"We thank him for all the money that he has raised for our NHS, totalling to more than £29m.

"Happy birthday Captain Tom Moore, from both Hastings & Rother Police."

The organisers of this year's Battle Scarecrow Festival were forced to cancelled the summer event due to the coronavirus, but have encouraged residents to get involved in a free virtual competition with the chance of winning one of the five prizes.

The organisers said: "The theme is My Rainbow Scarecrow - in support of the fabulous work being done by the NHS and all our key workers - and to put a smile on the face of all who are now wondering what they can do next to pass the time! Put your Rainbow Scarecrow in your front garden, on your balcony or in your front window.

"We would like you to take photos of your finished scarecrow and post them on Battle Festival's Facebook page. This is the link that will take you directly to the page dedicated to the Scarecrow Festival: https://www.facebook.com/groups/224674025264572/.

"If you don’t do Facebook, then send us an email attachment and we will post it for you.

All pictures must be submitted by May 17.
