Parents in West Sussex warned over teacher strikes

WEST Sussex parents are being warned by the county council that a teachers' strike may force some schools to close.

Members of the National Union of Teachers have voted for a one-day strike over pay on Thursday, April 24. This will be the first national stoppage for more than 20 years.

"The strike action may result in the full or partial closure of schools," said a statement issued by County Hall.

"The county council is preparing a list of schools which may be affected on its West Sussex grid for learning website.

"The full extent of the impact of the strike will not be known, however, until schools return after the spring holidays."

Headteachers would contact parents as soon as possible to inform them of any school closures or disruption. School websites should also contain updates on the situation.
