The children had a street party lunch, followed by a red, white and blue balloon race.

There was also a tiara and crown parade by the infants, as well as demonstrations of jive and rock-and-roll by the children.

Meanwhile, during the day, there was an exhibition of old and new artefacts marking achievements over the past 50 years.

Gillian Mills, headteacher, said: 'The children have produced some beautiful work and had a splendid time. We hope that through these activities they will remember for the rest of their lives this special time in our country's history.'

The celebrations formed part of an open day in the school to show visitors the children's achievements in the Jubilee year.
