Wonderful piece of local history

What an astounding photo in Hastings Observer 16/9/16 of the German submarine washed up onto Hastings beach.

What the value of the boat and its fittings would now be to a restorer or museum or collectors of U Boat memorabilia?

Are there any pieces from it in the hands of local people I wonder or even on the beach itself?

Ion Casto’s images are so good and I am sure bring back memories for many in our area.

The picture as suggested in the article was seemingly ‘doctored’ and showed the boat on what was already a beach scene taken at an earlier time.

Talk about ‘cut and paste’ and this was all those years in the past, I imagine there was a little early airbrush work as well but without the benefits of the air!

Great pics, well done Hastings Observer and Ion Castro for sharing these wonderful pieces of local history.
