This morning, legally driving through this junction, I was almost struck by a vehicle completely ignoring the filter arrows and cutting across my path into Victoria Drive.

Today was the first day I’d driven or even gone out in two weeks, and I won’t be doing it again in a hurry!

To the lady concerned, simply waving your hand in the air isn’t good enough.

If I also hadn’t been driving with due care and attention and not braked heavily, things would have turned out very differently.

Two years ago exactly the same thing happened to me, only then I wasn’t so lucky.

My car was written off and an ambulance had to be called to attend to myself and my colleague. The driver on that occasion received a police caution for dangerous driving.

Filter arrows do not mean ‘trust to luck, cross your fingers and carry on with your eyes closed’.

If you cannot obey the simple rules of the road, and indeed signs on the road, then you shouldn’t be in charge of a vehicle.
