On the one hand, it is something that the road opposite the pier is open to traffic and the statue of a British soldier is no longer boarded up, on a demolition site.

It is the sort of news that cannot be made up: an official notice on the railings declares, no flowers and “an unexpected opportunity” to weed out Oxalis.

Alyssum (a rambling white flower) will run riot with a little water.

Surely something can be done, with a little imagination.
