Nellie’s farewell

Nellie Jey, the Salvation Army lady who sat in her wheelchair outside Sainsbury’s in Littlehampton on Tuesdays and Fridays, wishes to apologise to the many friends she has made for not being able to give greetings for Christmas and new year due to inclement weather.

Very reluctantly, and after some pressure from her daughter, she thinks that in view of the cold months of January/February it is time for her to give up.

Nellie thanks everyone for their kindness – including Sainsbury’s, especially the café staff for their concern when she was ill and the wonderful surprise given to her by all on her 100th birthday, including the children from Launch Pad (children, please continue to call out ‘Nellie’ on your way to school).
