LETTER: Time to welcome newcomers

I have previously expressed my view that I totally respect the arguments of the opponents to the NH Development Plan. But, of course, I do not agree with them.

I certainly find distasteful the pejorative personal attacks vis’’cabal ,gang of’’ used by some of the opposition towards elected members of the HDC and I am sure Councillors Dawes and Vickers -who seem to be on the receiving end of many of them - will pursue their policies in a much more determined fashion each time when they read them. Arguments lose their credibility with such language.

It is also unhelpful of Ms Wise to offer patronising advice for me to read a previous letter from one of your correspondents as to his perceived threat to Horsham and moreover to suggest in derogatory fashion the effects of this scheme directly on where I live.

It is a shame that Ms Wise has not fully understood the plans that Liberty has proposed here -I will refrain from so describing this observation in a slightly less polite form.

The expected construction of a major new junction to the A264 and the consequent blocking of the existing Langhurstwood together with the building of a new arterial road taking HDV’S and all other traffic well to the North within the Development will be an enormous improvement to the quality of life for Residents here. It would be no surprise to me that Liberty has examined the history of the Langhurstwood Residents’ Association’s repeated requests over the past decade to the WSCC,HDC and the Highways Agency to build a subsidiary road and concluded this must be done by them. That said Liberty must be increasingly aware now of the critical importance for the earliest construction of its proposed arterial road system for the success or otherwise of its whole project.

As I remarked in previous correspondence about the growth of Horsham from the 1960s onwards , following the construction of the Northern Bypass in 1989/90 the HDC then permitted new controlled Building right up to this delineation line—some on green fields. Very many residents, and I guess from where Ms Wise now lives that she was one of them, were successfully and happily integrated into the newly enlarged area of Horsham during this specific period and the HDC did an excellent job at that time.

After a time elapse of 25 years I suggest it is now the turn for more newcomers to North Horsham and I welcome them again as I did before– although this time the welcome will extend to the north of the delineated Line.

I am therefore confident that after possibly another short bout of ritual squabbling there will be the inevitable outcome - namely the Scheme will be approved.
