Hostel threatended

AT the Arundel annual town meeting on Thursday, only one in 200 of the town’s population turned up to hear what the two speakers (the chief executive of West Sussex County Council and the director of the Sussex Association of Local Councils) and our eight councillors had to say – especially about the Localism Bill; in it will be the “community’s right to build” and our “right to buy”.

So, only 18 townsfolk heard the call from Tim Bridge to stop the sale of the youth hostel at Warningcamp in October.

Even though it’s not in the parish of Arundel, it is a very valuable asset to our town, bringing in a host of visitors throughout the year – especially large groups of students. It has 70 beds, almost always full, and is a treasured base for walkers.

So, is a rescue required, just as we townsfolk had to rescue the Lido?
