Hospital campaign

THIS week Arun District Council and Littlehampton Town Council relaunched the campaign to get our long-promised community hospital built in Littlehampton.

We’ve had enough of the excuses, enough of weasel words from the health trust and enough of the delays.

We’ve been promised a 20 bed facility that would have treatment rooms offering chiropody, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy, as well as rehabilitation services and x-rays and we want it built NOW.

Although based in Fitzalan Road in Littlehampton, this hospital would benefit people from across the Arun district and help ease pressures at South Bersted, Worthing and St Richard’s Hospitals by freeing beds because it would also offer a step down service for people to recuperate.

Building work should have started six years ago when the old hospital was demolished.

Instead, we’ve got a boarded up and overgrown site that hasn’t been touched since the last remaining bits of rubble from our old hospital was cleared.

It’s a scar on our town and a constant reminder of the disappointments, broken promises and delays we have been forced to endure.

This campaign has never been about politics.
