Council works officer Dick Nye has been equipped with a new emergency van, a two-wheeled tractor snow sweeper, a gritter and a chainsaw.

Digby Stephenson, chairman of Henfield Open Spaces Committee, said: “Reductions in local services forced on West Sussex County and Horsham District Council by reduced budgets meant we had to take action ourselves to be ready for emergency conditions.
