Combined efforts by the children and their families saw them clear this much-loved community area of glass and plastic bottles, cans, crisp and sweet packets, the odd cricket ball and even a pair of shoes!

Scout Community Week (2-8 June 2014) gives scout groups across the UK an opportunity to demonstrate the benefits and impact of scouting through a variety of community projects.

Supported by Horsham District Council, this national event saw 18 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from 2nd Horsham clear Victory Road Recreation Ground of 10 bags worth of rubbish.

All litter pickers were in high spirits thanks to the glorious sunny weather and refreshments provided by the children’s families.

Assistant Beaver Leader for 2nd Horsham, Kestrel, comments:“Scout Community Week gives young Scouts the chance to get involved in their local communities and improve the areas in which they live.

“For 2nd Horsham, this proved an ideal opportunity to do something of value for our local community while also giving the children a sense of pride and achievement.”
