Great idea but it's quicker to leave the car

ON FRIDAY, the third week of the new Littlehampton market, I tried and failed miserably to park my car to the rear of Sainsbury's supermarket.

Having just finished work, I would not normally have my car to shop in town.

Drivers were milling about hither and thither in all directions, like scurrying ants.

I took my car home, returning later on foot.

It was little better than before, added to this time by market traders making vain attempts to reload their vans and lorries.

It's great to have a market back in town, albeit for a limited trial period.

And it's great that even Rustington and outlying areas of Littlehampton can now benefit, too – from the drivers unable to park near enough to the market.

I'm all for the market.

After all, I support the farmers' and French markets when they visit High Street.

Which brings me to my point – why don't our traders and/or the town council allow this market to relocate to the Boots the Chemist end of High Street?

After all, it would free up the car park allocated to the Friday market, and people could look at the pretty photos in all the empty shops, from Nationwide, all down Beach Road!
