Gold star service

After reading the doom and gloom of being in hospital in old age, as someone myself aged 75-plus, you will imagine my reluctance after five days of bleeds about approaching my doctor.

I need not have worried. An appointment was made as urgent by my doctor, who gave me a thorough examination and was kindness itself, I might say.

I had a telephone call from Worthing Hospital within a couple of days, making a firm appointment for me to see Mr McFall in colo-rectal surgery. There was a long waiting list for the endoscopy unit, but I felt very well looked after to be told that an extra clinic had been added on Saturday and I was very pleased to confirm that I would be able to attend for a day case treatment under the endoscopy unit.

I would like to award Western Sussex NHS Hospitals Trust a gold star from a very grateful elderly patient for restoring my faith in the NHS and in particular for its attitude towards and care of older patients. Worthing Hospital should be so proud that its endoscopy unit is a centre of excellence. They have worked so hard at being able to offer their endoscopy patients an appointment within six weeks of receiving the referral.

From the moment we rang the bell of the unit, the lovely, welcoming, smiling, laid-back sister made me feel relaxed and comfortable. The whole team, and especially the recovery nurses, had such high standards.

This truly is a centre of excellence. The doctors, nurses and all staff made this frightening procedure so much easier for me. Thank you all, so much. I hope this will help anyone else who is about to have a colonoscopy procedure at Worthing Hospital.
