Chance to teach young gardeners of the future

I READ with interest the comments made by Linda Beard at the recent Rustington Parish Council meeting (Gazette, February 4), concerning where the chairman's Christmas collection went.

Linda Beard should be aware from her own previous service on the council that the chairman always considers carefully where the money is donated and, knowing Sue Lines very well, particularly as a most caring person, I know that she would have given due consideration to this.

Children are our future.

We were all children once and, as Sue quite rightly says, the In Bloom money does cover contributions to the primary schools within the parish.

To encourage young people to take an active interest in all things to do with plants, nature and environmental issues must be good.

When considering where such money goes, one has to consider a degree of sharing the load.

Some years it will go to well-deserving charities and in others it may go to young people.

Surely that is fair and Linda should be only too aware of this.
