Only the Seaside Award flag will be hoisted into the sky later today (Wednesday, May 22).

As previously reported, the Blue Flag’s absence was due to last year’s non-stop wet weather and a change in the rules for the water quality standard.

The EU made it harder to qualify for the flag by insisting on water quality being measured over a four year average.

The Seaside Award, formerly the Quality Coast Award, is given to seafronts which benefit from high standards of beach management.

Bognor’s has held the Blue Flag several times but it has often been forced to relinquish the status because of its variable water quality.
