NHS Property Services responded to the points made in last week's Sussex Express concerning the concerns felt by Heathfield Parish Council to be faced with a potential 700 per cent rent increase.

A spokesman for NHS Property Services said: “We are pleased to reassure local people that the council has not had a 700 per cent rent increase.

“When we met with council representatives recently, we agreed that figures in the quarter one invoice were incorrect.

“Future invoices are being adjusted to reflect the peppercorn rent and the service charges payable in line with the council’s lease. We are meeting with the council again this month to further clarify the costs of service charges and shared space in the building.”
