NHS COURSES TO HELP YOU 'LIVE WELL'

PEOPLE with a long-term condition, such as heart disease, arthritis, back pain, diabetes and ME, can book a place now on a free NHS 'Living Well' course starting in Crowborough on March 1 and Lewes on March 29.

The six-week course will be held at All Saints Church hall, 1.30-4pm. Contact Margaret Felton on 01273 403609 or Cari Bunker, 01273 403540 to book a place or for more information. Places need to be booked in advance.

'Living Well' courses are part of the Expert Patient Programme (EPP). They help people with any long-term condition take more control over their health by managing their condition better on a daily basis. Funded by the NHS, 'Living Well' courses are organised locally by East Sussex Downs and Weald Primary Care Trust (PCT).

Trained volunteer tutors, who also have a long-term condition, lead the courses. Topics covered include relaxation, healthy eating, dealing with pain and fatigue, communicating with healthcare professionals and planning for the future.

Participants have reported a wide range of benefits, including better health with fewer visits to their GP, being able to return to paid work or take up voluntary work, and greater enjoyment in their daily lives.
