New hall floor will benefit a range of sports players in Westergate

CRICKETERS are among the sportsmen and women who are benefiting from a new floor in the Six Villages Sports Centre in Westergate.

The upgraded floor in the main hall has been marked for seven sports – such as volleyball, five-a-side football and softball – to ensure it can be used as widely as possible by the adjoining Westergate Community School and the surrounding community.

Natasha Brown, of the operator Freedom Leisure, said regular bookings had started coming in for the improved main hall.

“We have had a high demand for our sports hall in recent years and this prompted the new floor to cater to the local school and community’s requests for high-quality space to teach and play a variety of indoor sports,” she said.

Freedom Leisure runs the sports centre, opened in 2001, on Lime Avenue for the county council.

A further investment in the building saw work start on Monday on the refurbishment of the studio floor.

This space is used for gymnastics, ballet, Pilates, yoga, fitball, boxfit, circuits and Zumba classes. It is also hired out for children’s parties, cheer leading and martial arts classes.

“Our studio is used by many groups and individuals for a wide variety of activities.

“I’m delighted that the refurbished floor will soon be in place to improve the experience for all our participants,” said Natasha.
