Mysterious oil washed up along Littlehampton

TRACES of a mystery substance have been cleared from beaches along the Arun coastline.

The substance, now thought to be harmless palm oil washed up on beaches along the south coast.

Small quantities were found and cleared from beaches at Littlehampton, West Beach, Rustington and Kingston Gorse by staff from Arun District Council, working with contractors ISS and Verdant.

Anyone spotting the substance is advised to exercise caution and to report it to Arun on 01903 737500.

Inspections of beaches are continuing in the meantime.
