Millions to be spent on pot holes

MILLIONS of pounds have been promised to tackle potholes caused by the recent bad weather.

West Sussex County Council says it will pump £2.35million to fund more pothole patrols and mend cracking roads.

The county’s roads have become a driver’s nightmare and were recently mentioned during an emergency debate in the House of Commons by East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton.

This week, the council advised motorists to drive with “extreme caution” while the repair job gets underway.

Derek Whittington, cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, said: “We know that following the thaw there will be a considerable amount of damage which needs repairing.

“Where possible, permanent repairs will be made but it is expected most repairs will be temporary.

“This is because a temporary repair is quicker and we are, therefore, able to keep up with the number of potholes appearing and keep the roads safe as best we can in the current conditions.”
