Mediaeval marvels show off fighting skills at Arundel Castle

STEEL clashed with steel once more against the backdrop of Arundel Castle, as knights of old staged a mediaeval tournament at the weekend.

Displays of hand-to-hand sword fighting and archery skills by members of re-enactment group Raven Tor took visitors back in time to the turbulent times of the late 1400s.

Spectators could also try their hand with the bow and arrow and admire the replica weaponry from more than 500 years ago.

A tented enclosure showed there was more to mediaeval life than just fighting, however, with demonstrations of weaving, herbal medicine making, fletching (making arrows), leatherwork, armoury making and cookery in a large iron pot over an open fire, all by characters in period costumes.
