Man succeeds in making sculpture of Prince Charles from toast

AN artistic scientist created a Prince Charles sculpture from more than 1,000 pieces of toast to celebrate 80 years of sliced bread.

Richard Robinson, director of Brighton Science Festival, left no crumb unturned at Herstmonceux Observatory and Science Centre today (Wednesday).

He said: 'It went well and I got the toast ready in time.

'I wanted to create the sculpture as Charles is from the upper crust and he has got loads of dough.

'He is also very well bred.'

The Michelangelo of toast making got a grill and toaster hot and ready at 11am on Tuesday at the observatory. And he didn't stop toasting a mixture of brown and white bread until 1.30am the following morning.

Then, with his assistant Paula Thomas, he laid the toasted bread out on grass to catch a likeness of Britain's future king.

Mr Robinson, a former Spitting Image creator, hoped the event would be seen as a chance to celebrate English breakfast generally.

He added: 'I love toast and scour the local markets for the very best marmalade.'

The sculpture event was just a slice of many events being held during Brighton's science festival.
