Man arrested after car crash

A 20-YEAR-OLD Bexhill man was arrested after a crash on Monday night.

He was driving along Hastings Road towards Sidley at around 11pm when his red Ford Mondeo collided with a black Mini Cooper at the junction of Penland Road.

He was arrested nearby by police officers responding to the collision.

The Mondeo driver is being interviewed on suspicion of dangerous driving and and failing to stop.

Previously the Mondeo had allegedly been spotted by a patrolling police car after exiting onto De La Warr Road the wrong way through a no-entry sign at the KFC drive-through.

It was found shortly after having collided in Hastings Road with the other car.

A crew from Bexhill fire station was called to cut out two people trapped inside the Mini Cooper. The 30-year-old driver of the car, also from Bexhill, received head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Conquest Hospital.

A 17-year-old male, who was a passenger in the Mondeo and a 29-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Mini Cooper, were also taken to the Conquest Hospital suffering from whiplash injuries.

They were discharged the following day according to Sgt Dan Russell of Bexhill police station.

The driver of the Mondeo did not attend hospital.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for its consideration.
