Main road speed limit cut

THE road where peak-time traffic rarely gets above a walking pace has been given a new - lower - speed limit.

After one false start, eastbound 30mph signs went up again in De La Warr Road on April 29.

The section from Glyne Gap roundabout to De La Warr Road traffic lights has been a 40mph limit for about 30 years. Now drivers will have to get accustomed to conforming when off-peak traffic conditions allow to 30mph.

Inspector Steve Long, traffic management inspector for Sussex Police, said the force has raised no objection to the new lower limit proposed by the Highways Agency.

He said the aim was to establish consistency along residential stretches of the A259 trunk road.
