Lively Libby lops-off her luscious locks for charities

A BRAVE nine-year-old took the chop on Friday (July 3) to back two charities that help young people both locally and nationally.

Libby Pritchard decided that instead of her normal pre-holiday trim she would lop-off a foot of her hair and it to The Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

To make the deed even more worthwhile, the Summerlea Community Primary School pupil decided she wanted to raise some cash for the Littlehampton disabilities charity, Enable Me.

Libby’s proud mum Claire said: “We are all so proud of Libby and what she has done. She is naturally thoughtful but can be quite shy so this has been a big deal for her. We are still collecting money for Enable Me and have already raised well over £200.”

Libby, of Rustington, asked her mum to share her plans on social media and within minutes friends and friends of friends started donating money.

The delighted youngster said: “I couldn’t believe that people started sending money to help other people so quickly, all because I was getting my hair cut off.”

This is the charity backed by Arun District Council’s chairman Andy Cooper who was delighted by the youngster’s efforts.

“It’s great to see such a young person doing something brave and selfless to help other people,” Mr Cooper said.

Libby had her hair cut by family friend and hairdresser, Lorna Johnson.

It was inspired by pop star Jessi J who shaved her head for charity in 2013.
