Life Aid training brings benefits

STUDENTS at Bexhill High School have been training to help underfunded local charities while learning skills necessary to save the life of someone collapsed with heart problems.

Called 1066 Life Aid, it will see youngsters joining professional first aid trainers in demonstrating resuscitation techniques, which could mean the difference between life or death for someone with coronary disease - Britain’s single biggest killer.

Organiser Mick Davies said: “All we ask in return is a charitable donation - minimum £2 per person - a double benefit in that 1066 Life Aid will hopefully make the area a safer place for those at risk and local charities better off.”

Demonstrations, each a two-hour session, are being held on Saturday, May 7 at William Parker School, Hastings, starting at 10am, 1pm and 4pm, and on Sunday, May 8 at Bexhill High School from 10.30am and 1pm, and Claverham School, Battle, from 4pm.

Mr Davies, a retired local police officer, said: “To make the pupils’ efforts worthwhile, we hope people will view our website and register for one of the sessions being held over that weekend.

“We have help from staff at Benenden and Maidstone Hospitals in Kent and are awaiting a response from the Conquest Hospital, St Leonards and the local ambulance service. We’re also expecting medics from the Royal Marines to attend.”

Mr Davies added: “The question we’re asking is - could you save the life of a loved one? We are aiming to train more than 1,500 people to have that ability and to raise some £3,000 for charity. Our website can be found at: www.1066lifeaid.org.uk”
