Lessons in cooking - recipe for success

COOKING lessons are being offered to young people in Adur to boost their job skills.

The budding chefs will gain an accreditation by ASDAN who provide courses to thousands of schools, colleges and youth centres across the UK.

If they wish, the teenagers can also go on to complete a basic food hygiene certificate.

The six week course is aimed at 13-19 year olds.

Students will be taught how to cook on a budget after requests from young people wanting more support to live independently.

West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Children and Families, Pete Bradbury, said: “Young people have told us cooking is an area where they want more support, and we are responding to that.

“Some people really excel at vocational courses, which are nationally recognised and very job-focused. This will not only give them life skills, but can help young people to get on the job ladder.”

The Cooking Project is free and all the equipment and food is provided.
