Launch of new conservation group

The Darwell Area Conservation Society (DACS) has been formed to celebrate, conserve and enhance what has been described as the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The focus of the area is the Darwell Reservoir and the surrounding countryside, including Robertsbridge, Brightling, Netherfield and Mountfield. DACS started as an informal group of residents fighting various local threats.

Founder Peter Miles, said: “Although the area still faces a number of ongoing threats, we found so much local energy and commitment that it made sense to put it to good positive uses rather than just being defensive.”

The DACS launch will be held at 4pm on Sunday in Mountfield Village Hall, accompanied by an exhibition of photographs of the old farms around and under the reservoir. Free entry, all welcome.
