LATEST MOVE ON HOMES PLANS

GOVERNMENT demands for new homes in Wealden takes centre stage from this summer with a major consultation on where they should be built.

Council officers are now starting work on new planning guidelines laid down under the auspices of the Local Development Framework.

This requires 5,000 new houses, roads and other facilities to be built in the District by the year 2026.

Planners want to involve local people as far as possible in the decision-making process.

This will involve setting down what is called a core strategy, producing a document identifying sites for growth and a design guide.

On Monday this week (June 19) the council published its draft statement of community involvement putting forward ideas about how local people can and will be consulted before decisions are taken.

Among other issues the council wants to know how people want to be informed about what's happening, when is the best time to involve them and who else's views should be sought.

Copies of the draft statement can be seen on the Wealden website: www.wealden.gov.uk or printed copies or CDs can be provided.

It is also on show at council offices and local libraries.
