Junction cleared ofroadwork

Temporary traffic lights have been removed from one of Felpham's busiest road junctions.

The traffic control system had been in place at the Downview Road location since the end of February.

Their presence had caused lengthy queues at times along the A259 Felpham Way dual carriageway.

The lights were put in to enable workmen to improve safety at the junction of the two roads.

The biggest improvement put in place by West Sussex County Council will see all the signals on the permanent lights turn red at the same time to enable pedestrians to cross in safety.

A county council spokesman said the timings of the new lights would be monitored during the next few weeks to find the best phasing for the traffic flows.

This could lead motorists to believe the lights were faulty if they failed to change as quickly as they expected.

But he said it was necessary to tweak the phasing before the best timing was established to keep the traffic flowing.
