Jamie is going flat out to reign supreme at Aintree

ALL West Sussex eyes will be on Jamie Plummer of Upper Beeding as he bids to win £50,000 for St Barnabas House hospice in Worthing by riding a winner on Grand National Day on Saturday.

Five years ago, Jamie (26) had never ridden a horse but on Saturday he will partner Royal Wedding, trained at Findon by Nick Gifford, in a bid to win the nine-furlong flat race the John Smith's People's Race at Aintree.

Jamie is a buyer for the construction industry and took up the challenge to reach the last ten who will ride in the race from more than 3,000 contenders.

There was no contest when it came to choosing a charity to support, for his father-in-law, David, had cancer and was cared for by the community nurses at St Barnabas.

He has an ideal partner in Royal Wedding, known in the stables as Charlie, because the horse, owned by Don Trangmar, has previously run on the flat, where he won over a mile.
