It's a Knockout couple win good citizens' award

A couple who organise an It's A Knockout competition in Bognor Regis have won their own prize.

Derek and Joan Hardie have become the latest recipients of the town mayor's good citizens' award.

The accolade was presented to them by Jen Gillibrand, the town's mayor, at her civic reception.

She handed them a certificate to keep as well as the engraved Ross Memorial Cup for a year.

The recognition was mainly due to the work which Mr and Mrs Hardie put into staging the annual fun day for hundreds of adults with learning difficulties.

Mr Hardie said: "Receiving the award came completely out of the blue.

But we have kept bumping into the mayor at various events for adults for learning difficulties during the year."

It's A Knockout is heading for its ninth year this October at the Arena Sports Centre.
