At 6.00pm to celebrate the feast day of St. Peter and St. Paul there is a Choral Evensong. All Saints is a united benefice with St. Thomas, Wincelsea. The combined choirs will lead the service. There will be special settings of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, an Anthem and some popular hymns. Refreshments will be available after the service.

The June Church Market, last Saturday, was another great success. At least £426 was raised and visitors couldn’t help but be impressed by the lively friendly atmosphere. So impressed that a lot of photographs were taken.

The next Church Market is on Saturday 19 July.

Tuesday 15 July The Church Social committee had a very successful guided tour of Romney Marsh churches last year. This year it’s 3 different ones - East Guldeford, Lydd and Brookland. Leave Icklesham at 1.30. It is the same guide but LB does try his best. The tour finishes with a W.I. tea in Stone in Oxney and the aim is to be back by 6pm. Everybody is welcome. The Queen’s Head has live music on Sunday 29 2-6 with Blues singer John Pearson. On Wednesday 2 July the pub has a Quiz Night starting at 8.30 in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice.

Icklesham’s albino squirrel may have a Kentish cousin. Our neighbouring local newspaper is the Romney Marsh edition of the “Kentish Express”. Last week another white squirrel was photographed taking nuts from a birdfeeder in a garden in Hawkinge (3 miles north of Folkestone). The chance of having an albino grey squirrel is 1 in 100,000. so they are rare but are found mostly in the south of England.

The new system of waste and recycling collections starts next week. All households should have received a detailed calendar for the rest of 2014. If you have subscribed to the new Brown wheelie bins you should have when these garden waste bins are collected. Monday 30 June brown Wheelie bins(garden waste) collection. Thursday 3 July black wheelie bins( usual household rubbish).Thursday 10 July green wheelie bins( a full list in the pamphlet including cardboard, newspaper. books, junkmail, plastic, cans aerosols, foil, etc. Black boxes for glass bottles and jars but some important exclusions look at the pamphlet. I did ask the lady from Rother and she did not know what the future of the green boxes was.

Christian Aid collections in Icklesham totalled £592.88.

Rother District Council,along with Natural England and Shepway District Council , are carrying out a survey on the Dungeness Peninsula. The area covered includes Rye Harbour, Winchelsea and Rye beaches,Camber dunes and Broomhill sands( Jury’s Gap). They want the views of people who participate in activities in the area,including dog walkers,ramblers,kite surfers,anglers etc. The survey can be completed at www.surveymonkey.com/s/dungenessvisitors

The survey is intended to help the authorities understand more about how people use the area and to plan for how it can be protected in the future,given the increasing number of visitors and people moving into the area.

Tom Firth of The White Cottage,Main Road, is an experienced Archer and a first class bowman. Under the heading of Archery in Icklesham he says

“Are you already wondering what to do with the kids during the summer holidays?

I can teach them to shoot,at The White Cottage,and at the same time all monies raised will be donated to All Saints with Saint Nicolas Church Tower Restoration Fund.

Mums,Dads even Grandparents are also welcome to take part. Age is no problem.

I didn’t start shooting until I was 55 and at the age of 59, not only was I number 12 in the UK but I was also selected to shoot for England in 2004,2005 and 2006.

I am proposing to hold 2 hour sessions for which the charge will only be £10.00 per person.

My only stipulation is that at least one adult must be present during all sessions.

Friday 11 July at 7.30 and Saturday 12 at 2.3o and 7.30 in the Memorial Hall, built by Icklesham to commemorate the men lost in the First World War, Icklesham Players and Acting Up At Rye have a production about that period of Britain’s history.”Smile Boys - That’s the Style” is written and directed by Mel Smith who was the writer and director of Icklesham’s Pantomime. The first half is about a volunteer soldier and his experiences. The second half is a Music Hall with the famous stars and some great songs to sing. All for just £6.50. The Fish and Chip van parked by the School is a regular Saturday event. Now on Tuesdays between 6 and 8pm the Mobile Wood Fired Pizza Company will be there. Roberto’s Pizzeria is 07583 253833.

Tuesday 1 July in the Robin Hood field there is a BBQ and motor bike show from 7pm until dark organised by bikers who support british forces. All bikes will be entered and entrance is £2.
