CHURCH SERVICE: There will be a service of Morning Prayer at the Parish Church at 10.30 am this Sunday, which is the third Sunday after Trinity. Have you noted in your diary that there will be a Flower Festival and Art Exhibition in the church over the first week end of July?

CHURCH MARKET: This seemed to be very busy last Saturday, in the Memorial Hall. I was late, and they had run out of coleslaw !! The money raised is used for Church restoration.

A CONCERT: Icklesham and Winchelsea are the same parish, so I have no compunction about telling you about a concert to take place in Winchelsea Church on Saturday afternoon, 27th June at 3 pm. It is the next Tea Concert, this time played by the Webb Family Trio. The performers are Jonathan, piano; Emmanuel, violin; and Gabriel cello. Jonathan is the father of the two boys, who are aged 13 and 10 respectively. They are EXCEPTIONAL performers and the music this year is called A Classical Journey and is by Haydn, Brahms, Mozart and Beethoven. The concert lasts about an hour and is followed by tea and cakes which are on sale in the church. It is Free Entry and donations are most welcome as a retiring collection. If you love music, DO COME. It will be splendid.

WEATHER: Well, the days might have been a bit warmer, but the evenings and nights have been decidedly chilly. Not much sitting out with a glass of something in the evening light. This coming Sunday, 21st June, is the Midsummer Solstice. That means that it is the longest day of the year, and therefore the shortest night. I well remember being at Stonehenge for Midsummer many, many moons ago. That was when visitors were free to wander among the stones. It also means that the nights begin to draw in from now until Christmas.!!

QUEEN’S HEAD: The music this Sunday will be played by Black Sheep, playing Blues. It can’t be a significant choice of performers for Father’s Day, can it ?!

MANOR OAST FARM: On Sunday, 21st June, THIS Sunday, from 3 - 5 pm, there will be the Strawberry Tea at Manor Oast Farm. There will be sandwiches, scones, jam and cream, little cakes and strawberries. Also as much tea or coffee as you can drink. If it is a lovely day, tea will be served in the garden, but if not, plan B will be in the house.The cost is £8 per person.

GARDEN PARTY: The annual Garden Party at Manor Farm Oast will take place on Sunday 28th June from 12 noon until 3 pm.There will be plants for sale, live music from Ricochet, a treasure hunt, a raffle, and a Ploughman’s Lunch with ham/cheese or pate and a glass of wine or a soft drink. Reservations for both the events at Manor Farm Oast would be much appreciated, by ringing 01424 813 787. Both events are raising money for Breast Cancer Care.

SCHOOL FAYRE: The Friends of Icklesham School will be holding their annual Summer Fayre on Saturday 27th June between 11 am and 2.30 pm on the sports field. In the event of rain, the Fayre will still go ahead , and move into the school hall. This year’s theme is “The Enchanted Wood” and we have our very own Princess in the woods who is there for the children to visit. There will also be King and Queen of the Forest Fancy Dress Competition. Another competition will be to design a “Friends” logo, to be judged by Icklesham Art Group, and the third one is a Garden in a Box. Other attractions include Raffle, Tombola, Face Painting, Lucky Dip, Bouncy Castle, Win a Bottle, Crafts, Football and Netball Competitions, Cakes, Ice-cream, and Refreshments, Hook a Duck, and Hoopla games. Very grateful thanks to the Robin Hood for donating the food for the BBQ. The Police and Fire brigade will be attending. There will be displays in the arena with country dancing, Acromax, Pulse Circus, Rye Dance and Maypole dancers. Everyone is very welcome to come along. Raffle tickets will be available on the day or in the school office.

SCHOOL NEWS: The football Team were Champions at the tournament last week and are now through to a final at Brighton Amex Stadium in July. Hannah and Ned went to the Town Hall as Business Ambassadors with Samuel and Sophie where they learnt about different aspects of the retail business. Their next visit will be in September, when they will look at aspects of of catering in the town. Following the recent visit, Hannah and Ned will be drawing up plans for the school to run its own business, supported by a loan from the “Fiver Challenge” scheme run by Young Enterprise. The Headteacher’s Award this week goes to the Business Ambassadors Sophie, Samuel, Hannah and Ned., and all the members of the Football Team --Ruben, Aaron, Theo, Marlon, William, Harry, Toby, Oli and Raven. The class awards go to Amelie, Millie, Neeve, Inigo, Alfie, Leon, Raven, and Isabella. During the week 22 - 26 June, Yr6 will be working at Cycling proficiency.
