Hurry to help piece together Peace Week

The week will take place between November 15 and 23 at various locations.

Organised by local cross-community group Peaceworks, with support from Arun District Council and the Arun Community Cohesion Group, peace week aims to use events '“ including sports, music and dance '“ to bring communities closer.

One of the organisers Chris Seaton asked: "Can your group, organisation or street run a simple event to celebrate peace and diversity in Arun?

"Your participation could take one of many forms, from exhibiting art work to preparing food, from friendship football matches to diversity expressed through music.

"We are urging anyone who is eager to help or has some interesting ideas to contact us and join in with peace week."

Suggestions can be sent to Mr Seaton or Jona Meyer by email or 01243 820604.

The chairman of Peaceworks, Mr Seaton said: "We are delighted that we already have an interesting range of events on offer.

"Some of these will involve the schools and youth organisations, focusing on developing peace-making skills and writing poems about how young people view peace in Arun.

"Others will entail entertainment, like music concerts and more active events such as dance evenings.

"There will be a chance for people to air their views on how the generations can live together more peacefully in Arun at a special inter-generational conference.

"Local organisations will also have the chance to share their experiences resolving conflicts in an online survey that will be published over the week."
