House damaged in blaze

A FIRE badly damaged the living room of a house and left a woman needing hospital treatment.

The 59-year-old was taken to Worthing Hospital suffering from shock and smoke inhalation after the blaze in Adelaide Square, Shoreham.

Firefighters from Shoreham and Lancing were called to the semi-detached house at 7.40pm on Saturday. They spent more than two hours bringing the fire under control. Forty per cent of the living room was badly damaged by fire, with 60 per cent of the room damaged by heat and smoke.

Lancing fire station manager Terry Beck said: "It was a severe fire. We were there for about two and a half hours. Luckily, it didn't affect the rest of the ground floor."

The fire was believed to have started accidentally.
