The station, run by a dedicated army of volunteers, celebrated its new online broadcast with a launch event at the Conquest on July 8.

Keith Crispin, station manger at Conquest Hospital Radio, said: “The significant investment we have made in new broadcasting equipment and the launch of our online service increases our audience into the local community and far beyond.

“Our audience is no longer confined to just the hospital. Family and friends can now listen to their messages and requests online, helping to bring them closer to their loved ones in hospital.

“I would like to thank our sponsors and fundraisers who have made this possible.”

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust chief executive Dr Adrian Bull and mayor of Hastings Cllr Judy Rogers attended the launch event.

Dr Bull said: “I was delighted to have the honour of launching this new service which will benefit both patients and our local community. I want to thank the many volunteers who give up their time to help keep Conquest Hospital Radio on air and online 24/7.”

Cllr Rogers said: “Hospital radio plays a critical role in a patient’s recovery. On behalf of Hastings, patients and the community and everyone involved in Conquest Hospital Radio, I want to thank you for your priceless time you give to make lives better.”

Studies have shown hospital radio can have a positive impact on a patient’s physiological and social health. It helps reduce boredom, loneliness and anxiety of patients in hospital.

Conquest Hospital Radio has been broadcasting for more than 40 years.
